"Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido por Dios, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable". 1 Pedro 2:9.
"But
ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar
people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of
darkness unto His marvelous light." 1 Pet. 2:9.
"A
Aquel que nos amó y nos lavó de nuestros pecados con su propia sangre, y nos ha
hecho reyes y sacerdotes para Dios y su Padre; a Él sea la gloria y el dominio
por los siglos de los siglos". Apocalipsis
1:5,6.
"Unto
Him that loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made
us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion
forever and ever." Rev. 1:5,6.
"Y nos has hecho para
nuestro Dios reyes y sacerdotes; y reinaremos en la tierra." Apocalipsis 5:10.
"And hast made us unto our God kings and priests;
and we shall reign on the earth." Rev. 5:10.
"Bendito y santo es aquel que tiene parte en la primera
resurrección; sobre estos la segunda muerte no tiene poder, sino que serán
sacerdotes de Dios y de Cristo, y reinarán con él mil años." Apocalipsis 20:6.
"Blessed and holy is he
that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no
power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him
a thousand years." Rev.
20:6.
Las
escrituras anteriores enseñan claramente que una parte, al menos, de nuestro
trabajo en el futuro será oficiar como sacerdotes de Dios. Como la obra de un
sacerdote es de intercesión y de instrucción en la justicia, prueban con la
misma claridad que la gloriosa obra de evangelización continuará, no sólo
después de que haya tenido lugar la primera resurrección, sino incluso durante
toda la "edad de las edades." El hecho de que estos oficios
de "rey"
y "sacerdote" existirán, implica lógicamente que habrá
súbditos para gobernar y educandos para enseñar; de lo contrario, los nombres
no tendrían sentido y los títulos un sonido vacío.
The above scriptures clearly
teach that a part, at least, of our work in the future will be to officiate as
the priests of God. As the work of a priest is one of intercession and of
instruction in righteousness, they as clearly prove that the glorious work of
evangelization will go on, not only after the first resurrection has taken
place, but even all through the "age of the ages." The fact that
these offices of "king" and "priest" will exist, logically
implies that there will be subjects to rule and learners to teach; otherwise
the names would be meaningless and the titles an empty sound.
Algunos
sostienen que el reino de los santos consistirá en un brevísimo "reino
de terror", durante el cual -con Cristo a la cabeza- pisotearán a
sus enemigos y los destruirán por completo. Damos gracias a nuestro amado Señor
por una esperanza mejor. Nuestra obra no será de destrucción, sino de
salvación. Gobernaremos como reyes, incluso con vara de hierro; pero el gran
objetivo será humillar a las naciones y prepararlas para la recepción de la
verdad. "Cuando tus juicios estén en la tierra, los habitantes del mundo
aprenderán justicia". Isaías 26:9.
It is held by some, that the
reign of the saints will consist of a very brief "reign of terror,"
during which—with Christ at their head—they will trample their enemies into the
dust and utterly destroy them. We thank our dear Lord for a better hope. Our
work will not be one of destruction, but of salvation. We shall rule as kings,
even with a rod of iron; but the grand object will be to humble the nations,
and so fit them for the reception of truth. "For, when thy judgments are
in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness." Isa. 26:9.
¡Qué
perspectiva tan bendita! ¡Qué vocación tan gloriosa! ¡Un sacerdocio real!
What a blessed prospect!
what a glorious calling! A
royal priesthood!
¿Quién que esté
imbuido del espíritu del Maestro, quién que sólo haya probado que el Señor es
misericordioso, podría desear un empleo más agradable que el de proclamar las
alabanzas de nuestro Rey Salvador a los que están sentados en las tinieblas,
vendar a los quebrantados de corazón, proclamar la libertad a los cautivos, dar
belleza por las cenizas y aceite de alegría por el luto?
"Para contar la vieja, vieja historia
De Jesús y su amor".
Who that is imbued with the
spirit of the Master; who that has but tasted that the Lord is gracious, could
desire more agreeable employment than to show forth the praises of our Savior
King to those sitting in darkness? to bind up the broken-hearted? to proclaim
liberty to the captive? to give beauty for ashes, and the oil of joy for
mourning?—
"To tell the old, old
story
Of Jesus and His love."
Para
prepararnos para una posición tan exaltada y responsable, necesitamos un
entrenamiento especial, y nos sentimos autorizados a afirmar que las pruebas,
las tentaciones y la disciplina de esta vida presente tienen ese mismo
propósito.
To fit us for such an
exalted and responsible position we require a peculiar training, and we feel
warranted in claiming that the trials, temptations and discipline of this
present life are for that very purpose.
Muchos
creyentes luchadores, esforzándose por vencer, zarandeados por el enemigo,
probados por los amigos, agobiados por debilidades heredadas en sí mismos,
desanimados y desfallecidos, han gritado, desde lo más profundo de un corazón
amoroso: "¿Por qué, oh! ¿por qué este sufrimiento? ¿por qué este severo
castigo?" Miremos por un momento el camino recorrido por los pies
sangrantes del Maestro, nuestro precursor, y encontraremos la respuesta.
Many a struggling believer,
trying hard to overcome, buffeted by the enemy, tried by friends, weighed down
by hereditary weaknesses in self, discouraged and faint, has cried out, from
the depths of a loving heart: "Why, O! why this suffering? why this severe
chastisement?" Let us glance for a moment at the pathway trod by the
bleeding feet of the Master—our forerunner—and we shall find the answer.
"Así también Cristo no se glorificó a sí mismo para ser hecho
sumo sacerdote, sino el que le dijo: Tú eres mi hijo.... Quien en los días de
su carne, habiendo ofrecido oraciones y súplicas con fuerte clamor y lágrimas
al que podía salvarlo de la muerte, fue escuchado en lo que temía: Aunque era
hijo, aprendió la obediencia por las cosas que había padecido, y habiendo sido
hecho perfecto, vino a ser autor de eterna salvación para todos los que le
obedecen." Hebreos
5:5-9.
"So, also, Christ
glorified not Himself to be made a high priest; but He that said unto Him, Thou
art my son....Who in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and
supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save him
from death, and was heard in that He feared: Though He were a son, yet learned
He obedience by the things which He had suffered, and being made perfect, He
became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him." Heb.
5:5-9.
"Porque a Aquel por quien son todas las cosas, al llevar
muchos hijos a la gloria, le convenía perfeccionar mediante padecimientos al
Capitán de la salvación de ellos. Por lo cual en todo le convenía ser semejante
a sus hermanos, para ser misericordioso y fiel Sumo Sacerdote en lo que a Dios
se refiere, a fin de expiar los pecados del pueblo. Porque en cuanto El mismo
padeció siendo tentado, es poderoso para socorrer a los que son tentados". Hebreos 2:10,17-18.
"For it became Him, for
whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of
their salvation perfect through sufferings. Wherefore in all things it
behooveth Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful
and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation
for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted,
He is able to succor them that are tempted." Heb. 2:10,17-18.
"Porque no tenemos un Sumo Sacerdote que no pueda
compadecerse de nuestras debilidades, sino que fue tentado en todo según
nuestra semejanza, pero sin pecado. Acerquémonos, pues, confiadamente al trono
de la gracia, para alcanzar misericordia y hallar gracia para el oportuno
socorro." Hebreos
4:15,16.
"For we have not a High
Priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in
all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come
boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to
help in time of need." Heb. 4:15,16.
La razón,
entonces, por la que la Iglesia es llamada a llenar lo que queda de las
aflicciones de Cristo es, que todo el cuerpo, de la misma manera que la Cabeza,
pueda ser entrenado a la perfecta simpatía y a la perfecta obediencia a través
del sufrimiento. En este tiempo presente, nosotros en todos nuestros problemas
venimos a nuestro compasivo Sumo Sacerdote con audacia, dándonos cuenta de que
Él, habiendo sido partícipe de carne y sangre, puede verdaderamente sentir por nosotros
y compadecerse de nosotros, así, en el siglo venidero, nosotros, la simiente
prometida de Abraham, a través de la cual todas las familias de la tierra serán
bendecidas, (compare Génesis 12:3; Gálatas 3:14,16,20;) saldrá
un sacerdocio real, según el orden de Melquisedec, completamente preparado para
simpatizar con las naciones, para conducirlas a los caminos de la justicia, y
para animarlas en el camino de la vida.
The reason, then, that the
Church is called on to fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of
Christ is, that all the body, in like manner to the Head, may be trained to
perfect sympathy and to perfect obedience through suffering. In this present
time, we in all our troubles come to our compassionate High Priest with
boldness, realizing that He, having been partaker of flesh and blood, can truly
feel for us and pity us, so, in the age to come, we, the promised seed of
Abraham, through whom all the families of the earth shall be blessed, (compare
Gen. 12:3; Gal. 3:14,16,20;) shall go forth a royal priesthood, according to
the order of Melchisedec, fully prepared to sympathize with the nations, to
lead them to the paths of righteousness, and to encourage them in the way of
life.
¿Rehusaremos
entonces nuestra cruz? ¿Buscaremos apartar el amargo cáliz que a veces se
aprieta contra nuestros labios? Seguramente que no. Es una mano amorosa la que
la presenta, es un corazón amoroso (infinitamente amoroso) el que ve la
necesidad de ella. ¡No! No es más que el Maestro preparándonos para su obra; entrenándonos
para el sacerdocio; enseñándonos a gobernarnos a nosotros mismos para que
sepamos gobernar a los demás; abriéndonos los ojos a la debilidad de nuestra
propia carne, para que tengamos paciencia con aquellos sobre quienes se nos ha
dado autoridad. (Lucas 19:17,19)
Shall we shrink then from
our cross? Shall we seek to put away the bitter cup that is sometimes pressed
to our lips? Surely not. 'Tis a loving hand that presents it, 'tis a loving
heart (infinitely loving) that sees the need of it. No! It is but the Master
fitting us for His work; training us for the priesthood; teaching us to rule
ourselves that we may know how to rule others; opening our eyes to the weakness
of our own flesh, that we may have patience with those over whom we are given authority.
(Luke 19:17,19)
Ánimo,
entonces, mi hermano o hermana cristiano, buscando con paso cansado recorrer el
camino angosto. No prestes atención al escabroso camino; todo está santificado
por los benditos pies del Maestro. Considera cada espina como una flor; cada
roca afilada como un hito que te impulsa hacia la meta. Que cada paso que des
sea un "Más cerca de Ti"; que cada loma en el camino sea un "Hacia
el cielo". Mantén tu vista fija en el premio. Pronto, muy pronto,
podrás llevar la corona.
Courage, then, my Christian
brother or sister, seeking with weary step to run the narrow way. Heed not the
rugged course; it is all hallowed and sanctified by the blessed feet of the
Master. Count every thorn a flower; every sharp rock a milestone, hurrying you onward
to the goal. Let every advancing step be a "Nearer to Thee:" every
hillock in the road an "upward toward heaven." Keep your eye fixed on
the prize. Soon—very soon—you may wear the Crown.
"Palabra fiel es ésta: Porque si estamos muertos con Él,
también viviremos con Él; si sufrimos, también reinaremos con Él."
La cruz consagrada llevaré,
Hasta que el yo se aleje de mí;
Cuando Jesús me llame, llevaré la corona
Por Aquel que me hizo libre.
"It is a faithful
saying: For if we be dead with Him, we shall also live with him; if we suffer,
we shall also reign with Him."
The consecrated cross I'll
bear,

When Jesus calls, the crown

For Him who set me free.
